About Meng Wah

Dr Tan has a PHD in Economics from Nanjing University, China. He was formerly with the Institute of Policy Studies till 2014.

Tan has done extensive research on income inequality and rent seeking policies of the government. In a seminal paper, Tan highlighted the shift in emphasis of Singapore’s economic development from income generation to wealth generation. The latter has benefited capital and asset owners at the expense of workers and SMEs.

Tan has also held several academic positions at the various varsities in Singapore.

“The root of the many problems Singapore faces today is the Government’s increasing focus on extracting rising land value benefiting capital and asset owners rather than on developing the economy for the benefits of the wage-earning masses. If elected, I will draw on my wealth of research findings to not only actively debate government policies but also offers solution to address the problems of rising income inequality and high housing costs” says Tan Meng Wah
