Parliament Questions for January 2025 Sitting

It’s a start of a new year but our work in Parliament continues. Presented are the Parliament Questions that have been submitted by NCMPs Hazel Poa and Leong Mun Wai in this month’s session.

Mr Leong Mun Wai:

To ask the Minister for Digital Development and Information (a) what was the process by which the internal circular that was issued by MDDI, instructing Government agencies to stop using unmasked NRIC numbers in new business processes and services, was drafted and circulated; (b) when was it circulated; and (c) whether full text of the circular can be made public.

To ask the Minister for Home Affairs (a) whether there are persons wanted on Interpol Red Notices who are currently at large in Singapore; and (b) if so, how many are (i) Singapore Citizens (ii) Permanent Residents (iii) non-resident.

To ask the Minister for Manpower (a) whether the Ministry is aware of any abuse of the in-principle approval (IPA) system by employers to prevent migrant workers from seeking other employment in Singapore; and (b) if so, whether the Ministry intends to review the IPA system.

To ask the Minister for Education what is the number of children who applied for and gained admission to Primary One from 2020 to 2024 under (i) Phase 2A where a parent or a sibling was a former student of the primary school and (ii) Phase 2B by virtue of a parent being endorsed as an active community leader, respectively.

Ms Hazel Poa:

To ask the Minister for Manpower when will the Ministry release the tripartite guidelines on restraint of trade clauses in employment contracts which were previously said to be released in the second half of 2024.

To ask the Minister for Digital Development and Information what steps will be taken by the Government to ensure that the private sector will move away from using NRIC numbers as a means of authentication
