About Francis

Francis graduated from NUS with a BBA (1st class honours) and an MBA. He has attended the Advanced Management Program at Wharton School and is a SAF scholar. In his 18 years of service with the RSAF, Francis received military training in France, UK & USA, and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He is the recipient of the Commendation Gold Medal from the SAF for outstanding service. His commercial journey started at ST Aerospace and includes other global companies including Honeywell and Ingersoll Rand.

“Singapore needs a new social compact. The ruling party no longer work for the interests of the people but to stay in power at all cost. A one-party government that dominates policy making will not serve Singapore well. For a better future, there is a dire need for strong alternative voices in parliament. I want to help in this process and help build a political party that can be the strong alternate voice for our county and our people” says Mr Yuen.

Francis will be championing the following:

1. Mitigating the ever-increasing cost of living. I would attempt to discover through policy examination,, effective
2. ways to stamp rising cost resulting from costs drivers like levies, rentals, low productivity, and the seeming profit making orientation of the govt organizations providing public goods and services.

3. The fragile economic structure of Singapore. The need to restructure for Covid 19 economy. Reduce over reliance on vulnerable industries like tourism and over dependence on low- wage migrant workers and PMETs. Look for industry led blue-ocean sectors to drive growth and establish a robust external wing to weather future storms.

4. The lack of transparency and accountability in the governance of our country. Not only will this allow for abuse of power, this will also lead to conflict of interests. This culture of “inbreeding” will impede Singapore’s growth by discouraging constructive debate with non member industry experts that can provide the necessary policy solutions for issues at hand. (we said SG should not be run like a company so we should keep that tread)

Francis received the Magnolia Award by the Shanghai government for contributions to the economic development of the city. He enjoys golf, music and travelling.
